Science on Tap: A Series of Tubes

October 11, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Science on Tap is an opportunity for conversation, debate and interaction between scientists and the public while drinking beer. Each month at SpeakEZ Lounge, a knowledgeable expert hosts a discussion about scientific current topics such as cutting edge cancer detection techniques, climate change and brewing beer.

This is a great chance to exercise your academic interests in a casual setting while enjoying great food and adult beverages!

This month: A Series of Tubes

Have you ever wondered how those emails from rich Nigerian princes get here all the way from Nigeria? Or how you can watch that 20 minute long Vine compilation while you’re 35,000 feet above ground? Each and every one of us uses the internet in our daily lives, but how often do you think about what’s going on behind the screen? During this talk, Mark Bitterle, a network engineer at Michigan State University, will explain the technology behind the internet and clear up some common misconceptions about it while trying to use as little technical jargon as possible.
